brown butter salted blondies
I have a bit of a foodie confession for you. I don’t really like chocolate. I mean, I like it, I just don’t LOVE it, or need it, and only very occasionally crave it. What I do love and crave, somewhat unfortunately, is butter. And salt. So you can see why these brown butter salted blondies are just the thing.
And really, they have it all–subtle and nutty brown butter notes, a chewy caramel-y crumb, and a hint of salt. I had thought about adding ginger or cardamom, but sometimes the best flavors are quiet ones. These have an elegant simplicity that’s just right. Head over to the Family Kitchen for our surprisingly simple recipe.

I am a HUGE sucker for salted sweets – just indulged in salted raw chocolate last night (for the first time) and it was outrageous. I’m totally making these.
@Feast on the Cheap, Even after my confession, raw salted chocolate sounds heavenly.
Me too! Chocolate is lovely, but I will always go for something brown sugary and buttery instead. It’s after 9 here, and I’m considering making these right now.
One of my best friends HATES chocolate and I always forget because I’m the biggest chocolate fiend. I get it…sorta
Good thing is, there are plenty of delicious non-chocolate sweets to go around. These look beautiful.
@Anna–that’s awesome. I promise that they’re heavenly.
@Kasey, I know, it’s strange not to love chocolate. Lucky for me I am in *no danger* of going without sweets! Or butter, actually.
OK, so I didn’t make these blondies the other night, but I did make this afternoon. And tonight, they are almost gone. And sadly, I didn’t even share that much. I used white whole wheat flour and two whole eggs (cause I’m lazy)– wonderful! Thank you.
I can see why you would crave these tasty treats. Although I might be tempted at add a bit of chocolate.
@Anna, So glad to hear you made (and liked) them! Thanks for sharing your recipe tweaks–I’d love to try these with the nuttiness of whole wheat flour.
@Barbara, That’s what’s so great about blondies–you can adapt them however you like!
